USA 1980
In January 1980 we were ministering in a struggling church in the North East of England. We stopped for something to eat in a local hotel and I struck up a conversation with a man who turned out to be a preacher just returned from the USA. We were booked to leave for the States in a few days time and he asked if we would be willing to visit his friend who was the pastor of a little house church in Connecticut. As a result of that apparently chance meeting we went to visit Martin Vanhorn in Madison CT, who in turn asked us if we would be willing to visit another house church further north in Jewett City. So we came to know Sam Wibberley and John Monahan and the small group of people known as Dayspring Church of God. It was an amazing time during which John Monahan, who was hostile to anything Pentecostal, was wonderfully and spontaneously filled with the Holy Ghost. It was the first of many visits across the years. The church, now known as Peniel, has grown into a thriving work of God and the fellowship between Peniel and Bethel has been established through prayer and united labour for the Kingdom of God, as well as through several marriages.
