From Fear to Faith
Mt 14:26 "They cried out for fear"
It doesn't take a genius to tell you what the big miracle is in this passage. Jesus came to them walking upon the water, something no man had ever done before, proving that He is the God of the impossible. But there is one miracle here that is often overlooked, the one that took place in Peter, not because he also walked upon the water, but because he went from fearing the worst to believing for the best, from thinking all was lost to seeing that all things are possible. He leaped from fear to faith! No wonder God often leaves us in the storm! Jesus could have stilled the storm before He even set foot on the water and logically speaking it would have seemed better to have done so, but He knows what is best.
He also wants us to experience this same miracle in our lives. So what is the secret which enables us to be full of faith in the storm and not full of fear? It is simply to see Jesus in the midst of the storm. It was as Peter saw Him that he began to believe. Hope was revived by seeing Jesus in the centre of it all. Somewhere in the midst of all our difficulties and trials, He is there! The hand of a loving Saviour is "Working all things together for good." He is protecting and guiding our lives and seeking to teach us many things. So, though the waves crash against us and the wind blows a gale, look for Him! See Him in it all and your fear will turn to faith.
