It takes a lot of faith and confidence to say “I know God will do this.” In fact, there are times when it can only be truly said when God has given us a specific word and even then, how can we be certain that it came from Him and not from within ourselves? The Israelites would always be in a privileged position, whenever they stood before their enemies, of being able to say “We know God will deliver us,” because of what God was now about to do. They would always look back to this time, when God opened up the waters of the Jordan River and brought them over on dry land. This was their evidence that God was with them and that. He would meet their needs, providing that they loved Him with all their hearts.
We too, as those who love Him, find ourselves in the privileged position of knowing that He is with us and that He will meet our needs, because we too can look back and see what He has already done for us. He has forgiven us and washed us from all our past mistakes. He has healed our broken hearts and touched our lives. He has blessed us and loved us, even when we failed to live up to His expectations. So by looking back at what He has already done for us, we can now confidently look to the future and say, “I know He will be with me and continue to meet my need.” We might not know how He will do it, or even when, but we know, as He has loved us up to now, He will continue to love us for the rest of our days.
