Last Man Picked
(Matthew 20:16 "The last shall be first and the fist last" )
A few years ago, a group of men used to gather together to play football. In order to decide who would play on which team, they would all line up against a wall and two captains would take turns choosing their players. The same few people were always picked first, because they were the better players with either better skills or, just fortunate enough to be stronger and faster than others. Eventually it would come down to the last few and eventually, the last man still left leaning against the wall. No one wanted to be him, he had no choice, he wasn't really picked at all, the fact that he was seen to be the worst and weakest player had decided for him which team he would play on. I must confess I never wanted to be the last man to be picked, which was a good incentive to work hard and play well.
I realised something a long time ago, in God's kingdom, I am the last man to be picked. I have no particular talents, no special skills, only a willing heart. I have also realised that as the last man to be picked, the Lord picks me first to be on His team, "For the first shall be last and the last shall be first." He chooses the weak and the foolish things in the world. He picks the worst player to play a key part in His plans. So if you feel that He would never chose you, remember, "His strength is made perfect in weakness" Those with no particular ability are perfect for fulfilling His purposes. Those who have no ability to speak, He calls to preach His word.
